Artist's Note:

American Beauty was inspired by a solo trip up the Atlantic coast.  My goal was to sketch and photograph subjects for future paintings.  Heading to Maine, I decided to take a long, slow drive along the coast capturing scenes of New England along the way.  One of the most memorable places I visited was early in my journey northward in Manchester-by-the-Sea.  I could have ended my trip right there with so much to choose from for inspiration.  This home, situated near the water, spoke "Americana" with the patriotic flag, a bicycle, a covered porch, and overflowing flowers.  I knew, if this was just a hint of what was to come, I would have plenty of inspiration by the end of my trip.
